Stay home and let us all play a part in fighting Covid-19 and tide past these extraordinary times together.
What is AromaTherapy
Aromatherapy, also known as essential oil therapy, is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Aromatherapy uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit.
Aromatherapy is thought of as both an art and a science, with its purpose to enhance both physical and emotional health.
Essential oils are compounds extracted from flowers, leaves, stems, branches of the various aroma plants. The oils capture the plant's scent and flavor, or "essence" and each type of oil has their unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its characteristic essence. For example, lavender relaxes and comforts, while rosemary relaxes the muscles and relieves fatigue.
There are hundreds of essential oil available and combining essential oils may also lead to a creation of a synergistic blend with even more benefits.
Benefits of using aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is said to have multiple benefits which include:
Easing emotional constraints:
It helps to sooth tensed emotions caused by stresses and pressures. It will also help to release headache and insomnia caused by imbalanced Nervous systems. This will be especially useful in these trying times where most people are cooped up at home during the Covid-19.
Skin care/ Body care
It will help to cleanse, moisturize the skin, activate skin tissues, reduce wrinkles and dark spots.
It will improve metabolism and helps regain energy/strength by speeding up cellulite circulation.
It helps blood circulation and strengthens immune system to fight infections and rejuvenates your look.
It works well for the respiratory system to reduce uneasiness on the bronchus, throat and lungs. It also benefits the endocrine system whereby it balances endocrine glands and hormones.
How do I use the essential oils?
There are many uses for essential oil which and they are not limited to the following:
Skincare - Facial Oil/Body Moisturizer
Some essential oils are especially good for skin and hair cares. Add a few drops of essential oil to 10ml of base oil as the facial oil used before shower, or as a body moisturizer after shower.
Essential oil can be used as an indoor perfume to create a pleasant, aromatic atmosphere. All you have to do is to add a few drops of essential oil in drawers, sachets, dried flowers etc to make the room more aromatic and comfortable.
Add a few drops of the essential oil into a small plate filled with water and light a candle below it and your home will be filled with aroma after a few minutes.
Add up to 8 drops of your favourite essential oil after dilution into warm water. Soak in the bathtub to relax your whole body and breathe in the pleasant and soothing aroma which will aid to wash away fatigue at the end of the day.
Add up to 5 drops of the essential oil after dilution into a basin of warm water and soak your feet for 10 minutes, which will aid to relieve weariness in your feet.
You can decide on either a hot or cold compress depending on your situation (please consult an aromotherapist when in doubt). Add up to 6 drops of essential oil into a bowl of water and put a towel on the water surface to absorb the essential oil. Squeeze dry the towel and place it on suitable body parts.
Hair Care/ Conditioner
The uniqueness to aromatherapy is its individual traits and very few people will react exactly the same to the same essential oil chosen; thus, to achieve the most beneficial results, an individual can explore to blend three or four types of oil in respect to his/her own conditions.
However, do note that essential oils are concentrated and strong and should not be applied to the skin directly. It is recommended to blend the essential oils with carrier oils.
Here are our recommendations for this period of circuit breaker.
#1. Amylinear - Deep Breathe Essential Oil
Deep breathe is a pre-mixed concoction that consists of lemon, thyme, niaouli, silver fir, clove bud and rose. The concoction will aid to ease breathing, strengthen immunity and relieve respiratory discomfort. In times of the circuit breaker when most are confined at their own homes, we would recommend deep breathe to aid the respiratory system.
#2. Amylinear - Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is extracted from the Lavender-blue flowers, a native from Europe. Originally introduced by the Romans, it was used for pharmaceutical use since the ancient times as it was known for its antiseptic and insect repellent effects.
Other than being a home first aid kit for insect bites, burns or cuts, it can be used for healing insomnia, anxiety and improve immune system - which is very useful in today's context where we are all cooped up at home.
