Well, skincare is more than just beauty and acne prevention! Here are some reasons why you should start taking skincare seriously today:
Singapore Weather: Brutal
Singapore. It’s either hot, raining, or hot and raining. While we can’t control the weather, we are however able to control how we prepare our skin for such tropical conditions.
Firstly, sunscreen matters. UV rays are not to be taken lightly, and you should consider adding one into your skincare routine. Did you know that overexposure to UV rays can lead to skin cancer? Not only that, but UV rays can cause wrinkles and pigmentation too!
Also, an air-conditioned environment will cause your skin to secrete sebum, leading to a build-up of dirt on your skin and you’ll feel icky and oily.
Not to mention the constant heat of our city which makes our skin perspire a lot. Like as if we’re hosting the next wild wild wet ride. Sweat blocks skin pores and can cause more acne breakouts. That’s why it’s important to wash our face at least twice a day or bring along a set of wet wipes to wipe away the dirt and sweat build-up.
Skincare is a Shield
Your skin is the barrier for your body from external factors such as bacteria, viruses, UV rays and allergens. With the lack of a proper skincare routine to ensure your skin stays in top-notch condition, you’ll find yourself more susceptible to such dangers penetrating your skin and causing health issues.
In order to take care of your skin, you should practise good skin care hygiene by washing your face at least twice a day. This helps to remove dirt and sebum buildup during the day and night. Not to mention, you should also consider adding toners, serum, and moisturisers into your routine if you haven’t already. They help to replenish skin hydration and improve your current skin conditions.
Skincare is easily accessible
With the wide variety of products and services to choose from, you’ll be spoiled for choices. Regardless, some might still find it hard to start a routine in maintaining healthy skin.
A basic skincare routine goes a long way to clear, healthy skin, even if you just start with the basics, aka cleanser and toner. If you’re not the type to apply 10 items on your face every day, don’t fret. It is not a must to start with all steps on a skincare 101 list, and habits often start with small baby steps.
Also, doing the occasional facial treatment would complement your routine well. We recommend doing a facial once every month or so, to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads that we’d otherwise have trouble doing ourselves. Facials are also a great way to relax and give yourself a respite from the stress of daily life.
Don’t let laziness get in the way of achieving your skincare goals, and start small today!
